A fascinating find in the Castle Grounds

Tropaeolum Speciousum, aka Caledonian Flame Flower

Following a tip off from one of our staff foresters, our new Head Gardener Jack and Gardener Dave set out to find the Caledonian Flame Flower that used to grow abundantly, enjoying our cool wet summers.

Upon arrival they found only 5 specimens in the newly rotavated soil and carefully removed them to propagate them at the Stornoway Trust Nursery.

They found only one mature specimen hidden in some nearby rosebay willow herb.
